‘You Started It, We Will Finish It:’ Iran Warns US of Swift, Forceful Response

22 June, 2025 10:36

Iran has vowed to retaliate following recent US strikes on its Fordow nuclear facility. The situation marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions. High-ranking Iranian officials responded strongly, stating, “you started it; we will finish it,” signaling a potential for significant conflict ahead.

Hossein Shariatmadari, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, delivered a stern warning. In response to the US offensive, he declared that Iran “must now take its turn.” Shariatmadari, who also serves as editor-in-chief of the hardline Kayhan newspaper, called for an aggressive stance, including direct missile attacks on US naval assets and closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic from the US, Britain, Germany, and France.

A Telegram message attributed to Shariatmadari said, “Without hesitation or delay, we must begin by launching missile strikes on the US naval fleet stationed in Bahrain and immediately shut down the Strait of Hormuz for Western maritime traffic.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the US strikes, labeling them as a flagrant breach of international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). He warned of grave repercussions and asserted that Iran reserves “all options to defend its sovereignty, national interests, and people.”

In a diplomatic move, Iran has officially called on the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session to discuss the developments.

Earlier in the day, the United States launched Tomahawk missile strikes targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities. President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account, confirmed the action and issued a further warning to Tehran.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump stated. “A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow.” He added, “all planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors.”

In response, Iran’s atomic energy organization condemned the U. strikes on its nuclear infrastructure as “barbaric” and a clear violation of international law. A statement released through state media read: “At dawn today, the country’s nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan were attacked by the enemies of Islamic Iran in a barbaric act that violates international law.”
