Pakistan Advances Digital Economy with Blockchain Technology
The Prime Minister of Pakistan has officially approved a Search and Selection Committee for key appointments in the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA). This decision was made under the new Digital Nation Pakistan Act, 2025, which aims to boost digital governance across the country.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) released a formal notification on June 26, 2025. The notification confirms the formation of the committee and outlines its duties.
Shaza Fatima, the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, will lead the committee as its convener. She will be joined by other senior government officials. These include the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, the Minister of State for Railways, and Bilal Azhar Kayani, who serves in the Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (PMDU).
The committee also includes the secretaries from:
Establishment Division
Cabinet Division
IT & Telecom Division
Another member is Salman Akhtar, who currently serves on the board of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL).
The main task of the committee is to identify and recommend candidates for three key positions in the PDA: one Chairperson and two Members. For each position, the committee will suggest three qualified candidates. Their recommendations will be sent to the Prime Minister for final approval.
In addition to recommending names, the committee will also suggest salary packages and employment benefits for the selected officials. They have the authority to engage with shortlisted candidates to finalize the terms and conditions of their appointments.
These appointments are part of the operational process of the Pakistan Digital Authority. Once in place, the PDA will play a central role in guiding Pakistan’s digital transformation. The authority will help implement digital laws, policies, and regulatory systems for a smarter and more connected government.
This is seen as a big step forward in the country’s mission to become a digital nation.
