NADRA Identity Card Delivery Time Reduction – NADRA reduces ID card delivery time

28 June, 2025 11:22

LAHORE – In a major move to modernize Pakistan’s identity system, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially reduced the processing and delivery time for the normal category CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) from 30 days to 15 days.

The announcement was made through NADRA’s official Facebook page, as part of its wider efforts to encourage unregistered citizens to apply for their national ID cards.

New CNIC Processing and Delivery Time

According to the revised timeline:

  • Normal Category: CNIC will be delivered in 15 days (previously 30 days).

  • Urgent Category: CNIC will be issued in 12 days for a fee of Rs1,150.

  • Executive Category: CNIC will be delivered in 6 days for a fee of Rs2,150.

Key Features in Updated Non-Chip ID Cards

NADRA has also introduced new features in the non-chip CNICs, aimed at improving security and usability:

  • Names and parentage will now appear in both Urdu and English alphabets.

  • A QR code has been added to facilitate digital verification.

  • Despite these upgrades, no changes have been made to the card’s fee.

  • For first-time applicants, the CNIC will remain free of charge.

Legal Status Granted to FRC

In another significant update, NADRA has granted legal recognition to the Family Registration Certificate (FRC). This will streamline family-related documentation and help prevent fraudulent claims.

Amendments to NIC Rules

Acting on the directives of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, NADRA has made important amendments to the NIC Rules, 2002. These reforms are designed to:

  • Align national identity rules with modern needs,

  • Prevent fraud, and

  • Improve data security.

The Federal Cabinet has officially approved the new framework, which is now in effect. These changes reflect the government’s commitment to using technology to simplify administrative processes and improve citizen services.
