Heavy Rains Forecast Across Pakistan from July 6–10: NDMA Warns of Flood Risk

07 July, 2025 10:33

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday issued a weather forecast of heavy rains and a warning of potential flooding in rivers, streams, and nullahs for various parts of Pakistan from July 6 to July 10.

According to the NDMA, water levels in major rivers—including the Indus, Chenab, Jhelum, Kabul, Swat, Panjkora, Chitral, and Hunza—are expected to rise significantly following the downpours. Similarly, streams flowing from the Kirthar mountain range in southern Balochistan are also likely to swell, creating flood-like conditions in the region.

Regional Weather Updates

Barra, Khyber District:

Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed Barra in district Khyber. The downpour brought pleasant weather but also led to a rise in the water level of the Barra River due to increased flow from streams originating in the Tirah Valley.

Karachi Weather Update:

Several areas of Karachi experienced light rainfall. Showers were reported in Defence Housing Authority-I, Akhtar Colony, Kala Pul, Old City area, Burns Road, and around the Sindh High Court and Press Club.

Upper Sindh Weather Update:

Heavy rain hit Daharki, Ubauro, and surrounding areas in Upper Sindh on Sunday, inundating low-lying regions and turning roads into water pools. Power outages followed the rainfall, and electricity had yet to be restored as of the latest updates.

Haripur, KP Weather Updates:

Landslides triggered by torrential rain were reported in various remote mountainous parts of tehsil Ghazi in Haripur district. The slides forced the closure of multiple roads, cutting off several villages from Ghazi city. Despite two days passing, official rescue operations had yet to begin, leaving locals to clear the roads themselves.

Met Office Forecast:

The Meteorological Department has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds across parts of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, northeastern and southern Balochistan, and southeastern Sindh within the next 24 hours. Torrential rains are especially expected in Kashmir, upper Punjab—including the Potohar region—KP, and northern Balochistan during this period.
