Heavy Rain Causes Urban Flooding Across Lahore
Heavy rain has caused severe urban flooding in Lahore, turning roads into rivers and forcing rainwater into homes in several low-lying areas.
Areas including Lahore Cantt, Defence and Walton have been badly affected, with several roads submerged and traffic movement disrupted. In Cantt, the drainage system was overwhelmed, leaving several feet of standing water in areas such as Ali View Gardens, Ali Park and Nadra Abad.
Rainwater also entered homes in Defence Phase III, while Walton Road and Cavalry Ground were heavily flooded. The Defence Underpass was also filled with water, causing long traffic delays across the city.
According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rain is expected to continue throughout the day. Lahore recorded its highest rainfall at Allama Iqbal International Airport, where 262mm was recorded.
Heavy rain also disrupted flight operations, with six flights to and from Karachi, Dubai, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Istanbul delayed. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before travelling to the airport.
WASA Lahore Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed is monitoring drainage operations as authorities work to clear accumulated rainwater.
