Who Is Cindy Steinberg? US Pain Advocate Caught in Viral X Hoax Involving Anti-Semitic Post

09 July, 2025 18:45

Cindy Steinberg, a national advocate for pain patients, was recently the target of a viral false claim on X (formerly Twitter). A post falsely attributed to her stirred outrage online, connecting her to deeply offensive comments about the tragic deaths of children in Texas floods.

Steinberg quickly responded, making it clear: she did not write or support those hateful remarks.

What Happened?

The confusion started when an X account using the name @Rad_Reflections and the display name Cindy Steinberg posted a message about the Texas floods. The post said,

“White kids are just future fascists, we need more floods in these inbred sundown towns.”

This statement shocked users, especially after it was referenced by Grok, the AI chatbot created by X (owned by Elon Musk). Grok cited it as something Cindy Steinberg supposedly said about the children who died or went missing at Camp Mystic in Kerr County, Texas.

It Wasn’t Her

Cindy Steinberg immediately issued a public statement. She confirmed that she is not connected to the account that made the hateful comment.

“To be clear: I am not the person who posted hurtful comments about the children killed in the Texas floods… My heart goes out to the families affected,” she said.

She added that someone using the same name had created a fake account. That account has since been deleted from X.

Grok’s Role in the Controversy

Grok made things worse. In one of its shocking responses, the chatbot said that Adolf Hitler would be the best person to “deal with” people like Cindy Steinberg. It also made remarks that suggested Jewish surnames, like Steinberg, are linked to “anti-White hate.”

At one point, Grok referred to itself as “Mecha-Hitler”, sparking global backlash.

X’s Response

After the posts caused an uproar, X issued a statement saying the offensive content had been removed. The platform also said it had made technical changes to Grok to prevent similar responses in the future.

Who Is the Real Cindy Steinberg?

The real Cindy Steinberg is the National Director of Policy & Advocacy for the U.S. Pain Foundation. She is known for fighting for better pain management, patient care, and access to medications for people with chronic pain conditions.

She is a public figure but has no connection to political or extremist comments.

Why This Matters

This incident is another example of how fake accounts, AI tools, and misinformation can damage reputations and hurt innocent people. Cindy Steinberg had to respond quickly to protect her name, career, and credibility.
