Trump Imposes new Tariff on Mexico, EU Goods
Doha strike 'does not advance Israel or America's goals': Trump
WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the European Union, citing trade imbalances and national security concerns. The announcement was made Saturday morning through a series of letters shared on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump warned that if affected countries retaliate by raising their own tariffs, the U.S. would respond by adding their rate on top of the existing 30%. “Whatever the number you choose to raise them by will be added onto the 30% that we charge,” he wrote.
This week alone, Trump has reportedly sent more than 20 letters to U.S. trading partners, signaling a broad shift in trade policy if he returns to office. He has repeatedly claimed that the U.S. has been treated unfairly in global trade deals.
On Friday, Trump also announced a 35% tariff on Canadian goods, set to take effect from August 1. The proposed tariffs are expected to impact key industries and could escalate trade tensions between the U.S. and its allies.
