Grand Theft Auto 4 finally receives long-awaited update

15 July, 2025 19:41

As fans eagerly wait for Grand Theft Auto 6, an iconic GTA 4 mod has received its first major update in over 11 years.

The iCEnhancer mod, created by modder Hayssam Keilany, was first released in 2011 to dramatically improve the graphics of GTA 4, which originally came out in 2008. Over the years, the mod became famous for pushing the visual limits of the game.

Several updates followed, but development stopped after version 3.0 in 2014. Keilany reportedly paused updates after facing criticism from parts of the modding community.

In 2019, Keilany announced he was working on a new version. Now, after six years of waiting, GTA 4 players have finally received iCEnhancer 4.0, which launched on July 14.

This latest version brings major upgrades, including:

  • Physically based lighting

  • Faster shaders

  • Improved fog and cloud rendering

  • Realistic skies and redesigned glass textures

  • Better compatibility with Windows 11

Keilany calls version 4.0 the “most stable and optimized” release of iCEnhancer so far.

This update arrives as excitement builds for GTA 6, which Rockstar Games recently confirmed will launch on May 26, 2026. The release was delayed from Fall 2025 as the developers said they needed more time to deliver the level of quality fans expect.
