Rymir Satterthwaite, a 30-year-old man from Pennsylvania currently living in New Jersey, has reignited a long-standing legal battle claiming that music legend Jay-Z is his biological father. His attempts to gain legal recognition date back over a decade, and he has now filed a new lawsuit in 2025.
New Legal Action in 2025
On May 3, 2025, Rymir filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z, stating that the rapper had a relationship with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the early 1990s when she was just 16. The suit does not request child support but seeks damages for emotional distress, reputational harm, financial neglect, and legal fees. “The suit does not seek child support but requests damages for emotional distress, reputational harm, and lack of financial support, along with legal costs.” (via E! Pursuing Music and His Mother’s Legacy
Following his mother’s death in 2016, Rymir has worked to keep her claims alive. A 2016 video released by Radar Online shows Wanda directly naming Jay-Z as Rymir’s father. After her health deteriorated in 2011, Rymir was cared for by his godmother, Lillie Coley, who is also involved in the recent lawsuit. Meanwhile, Rymir has been building a music career and regularly shares original songs on Instagram, inspired by the hip-hop world.
Jay-Z’s Response
Jay-Z has strongly refuted the renewed claims. In legal documents filed on June 16, 2025, obtained by E! News, his team calls the latest suit “the latest” in a series of dismissed and previously ruled-upon cases. The documents further state that this continued legal action has led to a contempt order because of repeated filings.
Where the Case Stands
Despite years of pursuit, Jay-Z has never publicly acknowledged paternity, and no court has confirmed the claim. As of now, the matter remains unresolved and continues to unfold in court.
