Islamabad, KP announced new sugar prices – July 2025

18 July, 2025 20:40

Authorities in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have fixed new sugar prices to stop overcharging and profiteering.

In Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon announced that sugar will now sell at Rs172 per kilogram in retail shops. The ex-mill price (factory rate) has been set at Rs165 per kilogram.

Retailers who sell sugar above these prices will face strict legal action. Assistant Commissioners have been ordered to check markets regularly, and citizens are encouraged to report any shopkeepers charging extra.

Meanwhile, in KP, the Food Department has fixed the ex-mill price at Rs165 per kilogram. However, sugar prices will gradually rise by Rs2 per month, reaching a maximum of Rs171 per kilogram by October 15. This step aims to stabilize the market and ensure fair prices for consumers.

Earlier this month, the federal government approved the import of 500,000 tonnes of sugar to control rising prices and avoid shortages. According to the Ministry of National Food Security, this sugar will be imported through government channels to ensure transparency and steady supply.

Officials said this new policy is designed to avoid artificial shortages that have caused problems in the past.
