Who Is Izaiah Pasha? Virginia Tech Welcomes Promising Guard from Delaware

21 July, 2025 18:43

Virginia Tech’s basketball team has added a major talent to its roster. Izaiah Pasha, a rising star and former Delaware Blue Hens guard, is now officially a Hokie. The announcement was made this month, and fans are excited about what this new player brings to the team.

Early Journey and Background

Izaiah Pasha is a 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard from Pennsylvania. He began turning heads in high school and quickly gained recognition for his all-around game. Pasha was a three-star recruit and later reclassified to the Class of 2023 to prepare himself for college-level competition. He spent his senior year at St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Connecticut.

While at St. Thomas, he was named to the All-Philadelphia Catholic League First Team. He averaged 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. Those strong numbers made him one of the top performers in his league.

College Career at Delaware

Pasha originally committed to Iona but changed his decision and joined Delaware in April 2024. His first season with the Delaware Blue Hens was impressive. He played in 33 of 34 games, averaging 11.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He also shot an excellent 51.7% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.

His outstanding performance earned him the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year award.

CAA Tournament Breakout

Despite Delaware’s rough regular season (16-20 overall, 5-13 in the CAA), Pasha led the 12-seeded Blue Hens to a surprising run in the CAA Tournament. The team reached the finals, making history as the first-ever 12 seed to do so.

Over those five games, Pasha averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, with one block and one steal per game. He earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team. In the final match against UNC Wilmington, Pasha had one of his best games, scoring 21 points, with 8 rebounds and 7 assists, though Delaware narrowly lost 76-72.

Transfer to Virginia Tech

After his breakout year, Pasha entered the transfer portal and became a top target for many big-name schools like Villanova, Louisville, and Michigan. But in the end, he chose Virginia Tech, where head coach Mike Young had previously developed players like Justyn Mutts, also a Delaware transfer.

Coach Young praised Pasha, saying, “He will make an immediate impact on both ends of the floor… Izaiah is an outstanding young man and a perfect fit for us.”

Virginia Tech’s official roster now lists Pasha at 6-foot-5, indicating continued growth and athletic development. His height, strength, and finishing ability at the rim make him a valuable asset for the ACC competition.

What’s Next?

Pasha has three years of college eligibility left. It’s unclear whether he’ll start or come off the bench in his sophomore season, but fans expect him to play a big role. With Pasha on the squad, the Hokies are looking like serious contenders in the ACC this season.
