France Set to Officially Recognize Palestine as Independent State
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will recognize Palestine as an independent state in September.
According to international media reports, President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement on social media saying that France will recognize Palestine as a state, while calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
He said he would make the formal announcement at the United Nations General Assembly.
He stated that this decision has been made in pursuit of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
This formal recognition, expected to take place during the UN General Assembly in September, marks a significant shift by one of Europe’s most influential countries amid growing global outrage over the situation in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the United States has announced that it will not participate in the UN conference on the Israel-Palestine two-state solution.
The two-state solution conference is scheduled to be held from July 28 to 29 and is being led by France and Saudi Arabia.
