08 August, 2025 12:19

Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali was briefly taken into police custody in Manchester, UK, after an incident outside a local nightclub. According to sources, Haider was out with friends when a fight broke out between his group and a local man and woman.

The situation reportedly began inside the club but escalated outside. Witnesses say words were exchanged, and the altercation turned physical. Haider Ali is believed to have stepped in during the dispute.

The woman involved later filed a complaint with local police. CCTV footage was reviewed, and Haider was taken in for questioning. Police released him after initial investigations but instructed him not to leave Manchester until the inquiry is complete.

Sources close to Haider stress that he did not harass or misbehave with the woman. They also claim that his involvement was limited to trying to handle the situation during the scuffle.

The incident has sparked discussions on social media, with many cricket fans waiting for an official statement from Haider Ali or the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Yesterday The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provisionally suspended cricketer Haider Ali after being informed about his involvement in an ongoing police investigation in the United Kingdom. The suspension was announced on Thursday through an official PCB statement.

Haider Ali was part of the Pakistan Shaheens squad, led by Saud Shakeel, that toured England from July 17 to August 6 for two three-day and three 50-over matches. The PCB revealed that Greater Manchester Police is investigating an incident that reportedly occurred during the tour. However, the exact nature of the incident has not yet been disclosed.

“In line with its duty of care and responsibility to ensure the welfare and legal rights of all its players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has received appropriate legal support to protect his rights throughout this process,” the statement said.

The PCB emphasised respect for British legal procedures and confirmed that the suspension will remain in place until the investigation concludes. “Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary,” it added.

The cricket board has also stated that no further comments will be issued until the matter reaches its legal conclusion.
