OpenAI launches ChatGPT-5, free for everyone to use

08 August, 2025 16:09

OpenAI has released ChatGPT-5, its most advanced AI model so far. The best part? It’s now free to use worldwide.

This new version is faster, smarter, and better at handling different types of tasks like writing, coding, and answering complex questions. According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, using ChatGPT-5 feels like “talking to a real expert” — almost like chatting with a person who has a PhD.

Every week, about 700 million people are already using ChatGPT-5. It’s becoming a popular tool as tech companies continue to compete in the fast-growing AI world.

Altman explained that even though ChatGPT-5 is not yet as smart as a human, it’s a big step closer to what experts call AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) — a system that can think and reason like a human.

He also said that developing such powerful models takes a lot of computer power and money, but OpenAI plans to keep moving forward.

Big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and even Elon Musk’s xAI are also investing billions in AI development. Earlier this year, a Chinese company, DeepSeek, surprised the world by creating a strong AI model using cheaper technology.

Altman compared past versions, saying:

  • GPT-3 felt like talking to a high school student

  • GPT-4 was more like a university student

  • GPT-5 now feels like speaking to a PhD expert

OpenAI has also focused on making ChatGPT-5 safe and honest. The model is trained not to give harmful or false information. Plus, OpenAI has released two more AI models this week that developers can download and customize freely.

Even though Elon Musk claimed that his own model is “smarter,” many experts believe ChatGPT-5 is leading the way in AI technology.
