NADRA simplifies process to get first National ID Card – step-by-step guide
NADRA has streamlined the process for Pakistanis to register their identity, offering clear steps and online assistance for easier access.
In Pakistan, where identification is essential for availing services such as banking, passport issuance, and voting, NADRA’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) process is designed for quick and hassle-free registration. Every citizen aged 18 or above is eligible to apply for their first CNIC.
According to NADRA, first-time applicants must visit the nearest NADRA Registration Centre with the following documents: the CNIC of a parent or sibling for biometric verification, a Child Registration Certificate (CRC) or a computerised birth certificate from the Union Council or Cantonment Board, and legal guardianship papers if applicable. In the absence of a blood relative, the NADRA form must be attested by a gazetted officer or public representative.
At the centre, the process includes obtaining a token, biometric verification, capturing fingerprints and photographs, filling out the form, and having it verified. In certain cases, officials may ask questions about family background to confirm identity.
NADRA offers three fee categories — Normal (Rs750, 30 days), Urgent (Rs1,500, 15 days), and Executive (Rs2,500, 7 days). Once approved, applicants receive a confirmation SMS and can pay the fee online or at the centre before collecting the CNIC.
While first-time applications must be done in person, NADRA’s Pak-Identity (PAK-ID) app allows renewals, reprints, and modifications online, making the process more convenient for citizens nationwide.
