Who Is Young Posse? The Girl Group Responds with Their New EP “Growing Pain pt. 1: Free”

14 August, 2025 14:03

South Korean girl group Young Posse revealed their latest music project, their fourth EP titled “Growing Pain pt.1: Free.” The group held a press showcase at Yes24 Wanderloch Hall in western Seoul. This new album answers a big question fans often ask: “Who is Young Posse?”

Leader Sunhye explained the album’s theme during the event. She said the EP shows their struggles and growth while trying to find their true selves in a world full of pressure. The music has a playful tone but talks deeply about their personal experiences and feelings.

Young Posse is known as the “honorary daughters of the Korean hip-hop scene” by fans online. Their new EP starts a series called “Growing Pain.” Before this, they released the “Food” trilogy, which includes three EPs: “Macaroni Cheese” (2023), “XXL” (2024), and “Ate That” (2024). Their last release was a special album called “Cold” just five months ago.

The new EP has seven songs. The lead track is “Freestyle,” which shows the group’s confidence in following their own path. Other songs include “YSSR,” “ADHD,” “School’s Out,” “Mon3y Bank,” “soju,” and “Same Shit 中 Another One.” All five members — Yeonjung, Jiana, Sunhye, Jieun, and Doeun — helped write the lyrics. This teamwork makes their music very personal.

Jieun shared how being trainees and now singers has not always been easy. She said they often felt unsure if they were on the right path. But even with fear of the future, they wrote lyrics full of hope and determination to chase their dreams.

The showcase event was called a “mini festival” by their agency, Beats Entertainment. Young Posse performed their new song “Freestyle” and older hits like “XXL” and “Ate That.” The group’s live performance stood out because they interacted a lot with the crowd and each other, showing strong energy and teamwork.

Doeun said she loves moments on stage when she connects with her group members and the audience. Sunhye admitted she still gets nervous before shows, but performing helps her feel responsible to give the best to fans. She tries to enjoy every performance to reduce pressure.

Last year, Young Posse finished their first U.S. tour called “The Hungry Tour,” which took place from October to November. Jieun said the group wants to play at bigger music festivals worldwide, such as Coachella or Lollapalooza.

Young Posse continues to grow both in music and confidence. Their new EP shows they are ready to face challenges and keep making music that tells their story.
