BISP Health Assistance 2025 – Higher Stipends, Nutrition Support & Eligibility

14 August, 2025 18:10

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), a key pillar of Pakistan’s social welfare system, is set for major upgrades in 2025, particularly in health assistance. The reforms include increased financial aid, expanded nutrition services, enhanced healthcare partnerships, and improved access for vulnerable families nationwide.

These changes arrive as millions grapple with inflation, limited healthcare access, and widespread malnutrition. Officials say the updated measures will help families “not only survive but thrive.”

From January 2025, the quarterly cash stipend for eligible households has increased from Rs 10,500 to Rs 13,500, aimed at covering essential needs like food, healthcare, and education. The Benazir Nashonuma Programme—focused on combating maternal and child malnutrition—has been extended until mid-2026. BISP’s budget for 2024-25 has also risen to PKR 592 billion, with expanded coverage now reaching more districts and remote areas.

The Nashonuma Programme provides nutritious food packages for mothers and children under two, regular medical check-ups, immunization support, health awareness sessions, and cash incentives for following nutrition advice. Currently, 199 nutrition centres operate nationwide, benefiting around 80,000 children under five each year. Since its inception, over 43,000 severely malnourished children have recovered—exceeding the global success standard of 75% with a 98% rate.

Officials stress the urgency, citing that “40% of children under five are stunted” and “17.7% are affected by wasting.” By combining financial aid with targeted healthcare, BISP aims to break the cycle of poverty and ill-health, creating a healthier, more productive generation.
