Whitstable, Kent – April 21, 2025: A tragic accident claimed the life of Ed Parry, 54, a plumber and father-of-two from Seasalter, near Whitstable, after he suffered a fatal injury while using a chainsaw.
Mr. Parry had been carrying out gardening and DIY work at his family home when he sustained a catastrophic wound to his wrist from a handheld chainsaw. Despite his injury, he was not found for almost 48 hours. His body was eventually discovered wedged between a garden shed and fence after the family dog alerted his wife, Amy.
Disappearance Raised Alarm
On the day of the accident, Mrs. Parry had taken the couple’s eldest son to Ashford, while Ed had taken their younger son to Canterbury. When she returned home later, she found their youngest son alone in the house, with her husband’s car, van, keys, and wallet still at the property.
Unable to reach him by phone, she grew increasingly worried. After four hours, she reported him missing to the police. Officers carried out house searches, checked CCTV, and even interviewed neighbors, but his location remained unknown.
Discovery by Family Dog
Two days later, while police were still making door-to-door enquiries, the Parry family dog began indicating near the shed. Amy went to look and found her husband’s body hidden from view. Police and fire crews confirmed the grim discovery, noting blood on the chainsaw left nearby.
Inquest Confirms Accident
At the inquest, Coroner Sarah Clarke confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances. Toxicology tests ruled out substances, and investigators found no evidence of suicide.
The coroner concluded Mr. Parry’s death was accidental, highlighting that he had been working normally on gardening tasks, his business was successful, his finances were stable, and there were no signs of intent to harm himself.
Coroner Clarke added: “I hope the record of this inquest will help explain things to Ed’s children in the future.”
