Heavy Rains; Karachi Traffic Police alert, key routes choked with traffic
Karachi, Tuesday, August 19, 2025 – Karachi’s major roads were badly jammed on Tuesday after heavy rainfall caused flooding in different areas of the city. The downpour disrupted traffic, triggered power outages, and made travel extremely difficult for thousands of people.
The Karachi Traffic Police issued an alert asking drivers to remain careful on the slippery roads. Officials advised motorists to lower their speed, keep a safe distance, and avoid unnecessary travel during the rain.
At 3:37 pm, the Traffic Police released an update about road conditions across the city. Multiple important routes were affected:

District South: Capri Chowk–Numaish Chowrangi, Liaquat Highway, Baba Urdu Chowk, M.A. Jinnah Road, Faisal Awari Tower–FTC, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Fawara Chowk, Denso Hall, Abdullah Haroon Road.

District East: Bahadurabad, PAF Bridge–City, University Road.

District Central: Lasbela Chowk, NIPA–Sir Syed University, Guru Mandir, Jamshed Road, Jahangir Road.

District West: Gulbai Chowk, Lakdi Godi, Dabba Mor, PTC Gate.

District Malir: National Highway, Jinnah Avenue Road.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that several areas received moderate to heavy showers. Keamari recorded the highest rainfall at 29mm, followed by Nazimabad (28.4mm), North Karachi (26mm), PAF Masroor Base (20mm), and Gulshan-e-Hadeed (15mm).
The sudden downpour left Karachi’s already fragile road system in chaos. Many commuters were stuck in long traffic jams for hours as water collected on main arteries of the city. Authorities have warned that more rain is expected, and citizens should prepare for further disruption.
