PM Orders Fast Rescue Operations in Flood-Hit Ghizer
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and district administrations to continue rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan, and ensure timely relief for victims.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to speed up relief activities in all affected regions and instructed authorities to remain fully prepared for operations in low-lying areas at risk of flooding.
He announced that a national campaign will be launched to stop construction around rivers, streams, and water channels, in order to prevent future disasters.
The Prime Minister also instructed NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial disaster management authorities. He assured that rehabilitation work will begin immediately after rescue and relief operations are completed.
Sharif stressed that the delivery of relief goods to all victims must be ensured without delay.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Ghizer resident Waseet Khan, who gave an early warning about a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in the area, saving many lives. “By informing people on time, he helped prevent a major human tragedy,” the Prime Minister said.
