A young Pakistani student, Mahroosh Umer, has brought international recognition to her country by winning first place at the AI 4 Good Incubator 2025, a global competition centered on leveraging artificial intelligence for climate action.

Mahroosh, an AS-level STEM student, led a multinational team that developed AgriGuard.AI, a platform designed to assist smallholder farmers with AI-powered solutions for sustainable agriculture.

The five-day global event brought together hundreds of young innovators from across the world. Participants were challenged to answer the question: “How can AI help us accelerate the journey to net zero?”

Mahroosh and her team impressed the judges with a project that combined advanced technology with practical benefits for farming communities. Their work was recognized for being realistic, accessible, and scalable.

What is AgriGuard.AI?

AgriGuard.AI uses satellite imagery and soil data to provide farmers with customized guidance for their land. The platform offers advice on improving soil health, boosting crop yields, and adapting to climate changes.

Additionally, AgriGuard.AI connects farmers to carbon credit opportunities, enabling them to earn extra income by implementing sustainable practices. This approach turns environmental responsibility into a financially rewarding effort.

Mahroosh Umer’s Role

Mahroosh played a pivotal role in the project’s success. She developed a prototype using Glide, an interactive tool that allows farmers to visualize AI-driven insights in their daily work.

Her leadership ensured that AgriGuard.AI was not only technically robust but also user-friendly and practical.

“We wanted to make sure our solution was both powerful and practical,” Mahroosh said. “Farmers are at the frontline of climate change. They need tools that actually help them in their daily struggles.”

Global and National Impact

Mahroosh’s victory is being hailed as a milestone for Pakistan’s youth in global innovation, highlighting the contributions of young Pakistanis to worldwide solutions for climate change and technology.

Agricultural experts believe that platforms like AgriGuard.AI can transform farming in developing countries. By combining local knowledge with AI-driven insights, small farmers can enhance resilience, reduce risks, and increase productivity.

Known for her passion for tech-powered social change, Mahroosh has been actively involved in STEM projects and aims to use science to address pressing environmental and social challenges. Through AgriGuard.AI, she is setting a new benchmark for student-led innovation.
