Who is Samar Rana? Actress Arrested in Ra*e, Torture Case of Domestic Worker

Lahore police on Monday took stage actress Samar Rana into custody in connection with the alleged rape and torture of a 14-year-old domestic worker.

The case, registered at Nawab Town Police Station, involves five men accused of assaulting the girl at Rana’s residence. Authorities allege that the actress not only failed to protect the child but also physically abused and threatened her.

Officials further revealed that the suspects recorded videos of the assaults, raising concerns about potential misuse or circulation of the footage. “The actress is in custody, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects,” a police spokesperson stated.

The case has drawn renewed attention to the vulnerability of child domestic workers in Pakistan, many of whom face abuse, exploitation, and violence in private households.

In recent years, the country has seen multiple high-profile incidents of underage domestic workers being mistreated by employers. Rights groups frequently cite poverty, limited education, and weak law enforcement as factors that leave children, particularly girls, exposed to abuse behind closed doors.

Although legal protections against child labor exist, activists argue that enforcement is often inadequate, underscoring the need for stricter oversight of households employing minors.
