Who is Abigail Garside? Champion Horse Rider Found Dead After Wedding Anniversary

Shocking news emerged from Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Abigail Garside, a 30-year-old dressage rider, was found dead just hours after celebrating her first wedding anniversary with her husband, Samuel. The tragic discovery was made in the gardens of Montpellier Hill the morning after the couple spent a luxury day together at the Rudding Park resort.

Abigail, who had been a well-known figure in the horse riding community for more than 20 years, had shared joyful photos of the celebration. She posted images of herself and Samuel toasting champagne while relaxing in a hot tub, with the caption: “Lovely day in Harrogate celebrating our first wedding anniversary with my love.”

The following morning, however, her body was found, leaving her family, friends, and the equestrian world in deep grief.

Her husband Samuel shared an emotional tribute on social media. He wrote: “My absolute world, my best friend and my beautiful darling wife. I will love you forever and you will never leave my heart.”

Friends also expressed their shock and sorrow. Emma Butterworth described Abigail as “the most talented, bubbly and beautiful girl inside and out,” while Jessica Goodier said she was still “gobsmacked” and called Abigail “a shining star.”

The Ribble Valley Riding Club, where Abigail had been a member for over two decades, paid tribute to her long-standing support. The club said she would be “sadly missed by everyone in the horse world.”

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that her death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner, and an inquest is expected to open on September 11, 2025.

Abigail’s sudden passing has left a void in both her family and the wider equestrian community. She will be remembered not only for her talent but also for her kind and vibrant personality.
