Govt Lifts Ban on New Domestic Gas Connections

11 September, 2025 11:16

The federal government has officially lifted the long-standing ban on new domestic gas connections, bringing relief to households across Pakistan.

Speaking at a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik confirmed that the cabinet approved the decision to allow new connections for domestic use. He said, “The Sui Southern and Sui Northern gas companies will begin the process of providing connections. Consumers using RLNG (Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas) connections will incur 30% less cost compared to LPG.”

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also addressed the media, noting that the issue of limited gas connections had been a major concern for the public. “The difficulties faced by the public due to the lack of gas connections will now be resolved,” he said.

Chaudhry further highlighted that floodwaters had started entering Sindh at Panjnad, where narrowed waterways were intensifying the flooding. He announced plans to declare an agricultural emergency to deal with the crisis.

He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s close ties with China, stating, “China is a great friend of Pakistan and has always stood by us in difficult times. We are about to begin a new era of relations with China. The Prime Minister will soon hold a meeting with all four Chief Ministers.”
