19 August, 2026 12:14

Eight highway police officers who were returning after performing election duty in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have shared details of the violent incident they allegedly faced near Rawalakot.

According to the officers, they were returning after completing their duties during the recent elections when armed individuals linked to the banned Awami Action Committee allegedly surrounded them and took them hostage.

The eight officers were later safely rescued. The rescue was described as an important development, with law enforcement agencies praised for their timely and effective action.

The rescued officers said:

“We were returning after performing our duties during the recent elections in Azad Kashmir when armed groups linked to the banned Awami Action Committee surrounded us and took us hostage.”

“We were subjected to extremely violent treatment during our captivity, while the kidnappers were carrying modern weapons, firearms and hand grenades.”

“We were forcibly made to raise slogans against Pakistan and the Pakistan Army.”

“They are using women and children as shields at the protest to hide their armed groups.”

The officers said the incident had caused them serious fear and distress during their captivity.

They alleged that the armed group’s activities were not focused on public welfare but were instead based on opposition to the state and violence.

The incident has raised concerns over law and order in the area. Authorities have stressed that legal action should be taken against those involved in the alleged abduction and violence.

The safe recovery of the eight police officers was described as a positive development and a sign of the authorities’ efforts to protect police personnel and maintain the rule of law.
