Rising Terrorism in KP Sparks Public Anger Over Provincial Government

The deteriorating security situation and growing terrorist violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have triggered public criticism of the provincial government, with residents expressing concern over the increasing attacks and loss of lives.

Citizens say the security situation across the province has become increasingly alarming, with security forces and civilians repeatedly being targeted in bombings and other attacks.

The concerns come amid a recent rise in militant violence in KP. A deadly attack in Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan, recently targeted a police and customs check-post, killing more than 12 people, including rescue officials.

Residents say terrorist attacks have become a recurring security challenge in the province, with both civilians and members of the security forces continuing to suffer casualties.

Some citizens have criticised the provincial government, saying political activity and disputes should not take priority over addressing the deteriorating law-and-order situation.

They have also questioned the focus of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s political engagements and called on him to concentrate on improving security and governance within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“Instead of focusing on the affairs of other provinces, the chief minister should concentrate on improving conditions in his own province,” residents said.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has himself acknowledged the worsening security situation and has called for closer coordination between the federal and provincial governments. During a recent visit to Dera Ismail Khan, he argued that KP’s concerns should be incorporated into the national counterterrorism policy and demanded greater cooperation from the federal government.

Afridi has also said that his government provided additional funds to the KP police for maintaining security and has complained about delays in receiving modern equipment and armoured vehicles.

The security situation has also become part of a wider political dispute between the provincial and federal governments, with both sides exchanging criticism over responsibility for counterterrorism policy and security management.
