10 Killed, 32 Injured as Speeding Bus Overturns on Indus Highway in Rajanpur

At least 10 passengers were killed and 32 others injured after a speeding bus struck a road divider and overturned near Bangla Hidayat on the Indus Highway in Punjab’s Rajanpur district on Wednesday.
The bus was travelling from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan when the accident occurred.
Rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the crash and shifted the bodies and injured passengers to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. An emergency was declared at the District Headquarters Hospital in Rajanpur and other nearby medical facilities to deal with the influx of casualties.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. On her instructions, the Rajanpur deputy commissioner arrived at the accident site to supervise rescue operations.
The chief minister directed the authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery. She also ordered immediate action against those found responsible for the accident.
Road accidents remain a persistent concern on Pakistan’s highways and motorways. Speeding, reckless driving, driver fatigue and poor vehicle maintenance are among the factors frequently associated with serious crashes, while deteriorating road conditions can also increase risks.
The Rajanpur accident occurred a day after five people were killed in Multan when a speeding car hit a road divider. All five occupants of that vehicle were residents of Shujaabad.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns about road safety and the need for effective enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
