BISP 8171 Update: Why Some Payments Have Been Stopped
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Pakistan’s largest social welfare initiative, is undergoing major system changes that have affected thousands of families relying on the 8171 Kafalat installment of Rs. 13,500 for September 2025. While the government insists the updates are designed to improve transparency and fairness, many beneficiaries have reported their payments being stopped or blocked.
According to officials, the changes aim to ensure that “only truly needy families continue receiving support” by updating the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) and tightening eligibility checks. Families with government jobs, pensions, high property ownership, or a high Poverty Means Test (PMT) score are being removed from the program.
Several recipients have raised concerns after discovering their payments had been halted without warning. Common reasons include incomplete or outdated survey data, unverified CNIC records, or failure to complete the dynamic survey now required for continued assistance.
To check payment status, beneficiaries can:
- Send CNIC via SMS to 8171 for instant eligibility updates.
- Use the online BISP portal to view payment details.
- Visit the nearest BISP tehsil office for assistance and appeals.
Officials have reassured the public that payments can resume once eligibility is verified. “This drone service will allow us to rescue people from areas that are otherwise too dangerous or inaccessible,” said BISP representatives, stressing that genuine beneficiaries should not panic.
The government has emphasized that the overhaul is meant to remove ineligible participants, reduce corruption, and include more deserving households. However, until the process is completed, thousands of families remain uncertain about their financial lifeline.
