Punjab Assembly Resolution Calls for Permanent Ban on TikTok
A resolution seeking a permanent ban on TikTok has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly by opposition lawmaker Farrukh Javed, according to official sources.
The resolution accuses the TikTok “mafia” in Pakistan of spreading “vulgarity and obscenity,” particularly through its live chat feature. It argues that the app is enabling inappropriate conversations among young users, including children, and pushing them toward immoral behavior.
The text further states that TikTok is attracting the younger generation with a “culture of cheap fame and money,” which it claims threatens societal values. The resolution stressed that such practices are “not acceptable in an Islamic society” and highlighted the need for decisive action to preserve the nation’s moral standards.
It urged the Punjab Assembly to recommend that the federal government impose a permanent ban on TikTok and its live chat option. The stated objective is to shield children and youth from what the resolution described as “moral collapse.”
The matter is expected to be taken up for discussion during an upcoming session of the assembly.
