Islamabad–Rawalpindi Fast Train Service Route Finalized
A meeting chaired by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday approved the launch of a modern, fast train service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
According to officials, the new service will link Margalla Station in Islamabad with Saddar Station in Rawalpindi, reducing travel time between the twin cities to just 20 minutes. The Ministry of Railways will provide the existing track infrastructure, while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will oversee train operations.
Participants revealed that the framework agreement will be finalized and signed next week, with authorities emphasizing that the project will be carried out on a priority basis.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi termed the initiative “an important public welfare project,” noting its potential to make commuting faster and more convenient. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the service reflects the federal government’s commitment to improving citizens’ daily lives.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that the train would not only provide a fast and affordable transport option but also help reduce traffic congestion on the main roads connecting Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
