NADRA Introduces Facial Recognition to Ease Biometric Issues

16 September, 2025 15:42

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a new initiative to resolve biometric verification problems faced by elderly citizens. The authority will soon introduce facial recognition technology to help those struggling with fingerprint authentication due to age-related difficulties.

NADRA spokesperson Shibahat Ali explained that this step is aimed at ensuring a smoother verification process for senior citizens. He also stressed the importance of registering newborns on time, adding that “failure to do so is a violation of the child’s basic rights.” For individuals under 18, NADRA issues a Juvenile Card, which is valid until adulthood.

The spokesperson further stated that a parental CNIC is mandatory for the issuance of a child’s ID card, but “if one parent is unavailable for any reason, the ID of the other parent is sufficient.” In cases of divorce, a certificate from the Union Council is required to update official records.

Currently, NADRA operates 359 counters across Karachi and plans to expand capacity to better serve citizens.

In addition, the spokesperson highlighted that Succession Certificate services, once limited to select branches, are now available at all NADRA centers nationwide. This legal document is essential for transferring the assets of deceased family members, and the new expansion will help families complete inheritance matters more efficiently without the need for long-distance travel.
