PTA Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman Returns to Office
The Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) division bench has reinstated the recently ousted PTA Chairman, Major General (Retired) Hafeez ur Rehman, after suspending the ruling of a single bench.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Asif and Justice Inaam Amin Minhas, issued the suspension in response to a petition filed by Hafeez ur Rehman. Earlier, Justice Babar Sattar’s bench had ordered his removal, prompting the PTA Chairman to challenge the decision in court.
In his petition, Hafeez ur Rehman argued that his dismissal was “unlawful” and requested that the court declare the order void. The IHC division bench’s ruling has temporarily restored him to his position while the case continues.
Legal experts have described the development as significant, pointing out that it raises critical questions not only about the constitutional standing of the PTA Chairman but also about governance and the broader administrative framework of Pakistan’s telecommunications sector.
The case is expected to draw further attention as proceedings continue, given its potential implications for regulatory leadership and telecom policy in the country.
