Google Discover to Feature Social Media Content Alongside News and Articles

Google is rolling out new updates to its Discover Feed, which will now integrate content from Instagram, X, and other social media platforms. Previously known for highlighting news, lifestyle pieces, and articles, the feed will soon display posts and videos from popular creators, aiming to offer a more diverse and engaging user experience.

The tech giant says the latest change is designed to create a feed that feels more personal, combining social media posts, short clips, and traditional articles in one place. Users will also have new ways to indicate interest in specific sources, ensuring preferred content appears more frequently.

Rather than only hiding unwanted material, the updated feed lets audiences tailor what rises to the top, blending entertainment, information, and social updates in a single stream. Over the coming weeks, this enhancement will roll out globally, providing what Google describes as a seamless and personalized journey through the content that matters most.

Low-Quality AI Content Under Scrutiny

In a related move, Google has updated its guidelines to target low-quality AI-generated content. Pages where most or all of the main material is created by AI may now be given the lowest quality ratings.

While the company acknowledges that AI can be a useful tool, it stresses that originality, human input, and added value remain crucial. Content that lacks effort, is copied or paraphrased, or is produced solely for the benefit of site owners risks being penalized.

Google further warns that misleading author claims, deceptive page designs, and unoriginal AI-driven output could lead to lower rankings. The search engine reiterates that high-quality, authentic, and human-reviewed content is key for visibility in search results.
