Who is Atish Shah? 52-year-old man loses control of Lamborghini

22 September, 2025 14:14

On Monday, September 22, 2025, a serious accident shocked Mumbai. A 52-year-old man named Atish Shah lost control of his Lamborghini while driving on the busy Coastal Road. The car skidded on the wet surface and hit a concrete divider with great force.

The accident took place when Shah was heading towards Colaba from his residence at Nepean Sea Road. The luxury sports car spun several times before coming to a stop. Luckily, no injuries were reported, but the vehicle was badly damaged.

Police Investigation Begins

The Worli police quickly reached the spot. A case was filed against Atish Shah for rash and negligent driving. Authorities also informed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to check if any technical fault caused the crash.

This step is important because luxury cars like Lamborghini often raise questions about safety on Indian city roads.

Viral Video Creates Buzz

Bystanders recorded the crash and shared the video online. The footage showed the car spinning uncontrollably on the slippery road before smashing into the divider. Within hours, the clip went viral on Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook, sparking heated debates.

Some users blamed hydroplaning caused by water on the road. Others called it a driver’s skill issue, saying high-performance cars need expert handling.

Are Supercars Safe for Indian Roads?

Experts have long warned that supercars are not built for Indian road conditions. These vehicles have:

  • Low ground clearance.

  • Very powerful engines.

  • Sensitive braking systems.

Such features work well on smooth highways in Europe or the U.S. But in India, narrow lanes, potholes, waterlogging, and heavy traffic make supercar driving highly risky.

Gautam Singhania’s Reaction

Businessman Gautam Singhania, Managing Director of Raymond Group and a well-known car lover, also shared the video.

He wrote on Instagram: “Another day, another Lamborghini mishap. This time on Mumbai’s Coastal Road at 9:15 AM. Do these cars even have traction control? From catching fire to losing grip, what’s going on with Lamborghini?”

His remarks added more attention to the growing debate about whether such expensive sports cars are suitable for Indian cities.
