Qatar Says Efforts Continue to Restart US-Iran Talks

DOHA: Qatar said Tuesday that contacts between the United States and Iran are continuing as efforts continue to bring both sides back to negotiations.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said Qatari officials are speaking with both sides daily and working on possible ways to restart the talks.

“Our officials are on the phone on a daily basis trying to workshop ideas, workshop ways of getting back to the negotiations,” Al Ansari said during a weekly media briefing.

On the Strait of Hormuz, Al Ansari called for dialogue and diplomacy. He said the priority was “to go back to the freedom of navigation and to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz the way it was before the war.”

Commenting on the latest U.S. economic sanctions against Iran, Al Ansari described them as unilateral and said Qatar remains focused on finding a diplomatic solution.

“We are urging the parties to engage fully in the talks and the mediation that is led by Qatar and Pakistan and the other regional players and we find that to be the only way out of this crisis,” he said.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new round of sanctions against Iran on Monday, warning of what he called “an economic D-Day.”

Qatar said continued dialogue and mediation remain the best way to resolve the crisis and bring the United States and Iran back to negotiations.
