Cockroach Janata Party Plans Major Protest in New Delhi, Modi Govt Faces Pressure
Indian authorities have tightened security across New Delhi ahead of a planned major protest by the Cockroach Janata Party, according to Indian media reports.
Roadblocks have been set up at several locations, and large numbers of security personnel have been deployed across different parts of the capital. Roads leading to Jantar Mantar have also been blocked.
Indian media reported that mobile internet services could be suspended in parts of Delhi. More than 250 trains have reportedly been cancelled, while entry and exit points at 57 Delhi Metro stations have also been closed.
The protesters are demanding electoral reforms and the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
According to Indian media, police have detained Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, and stepped up arrests of party workers. Police have reportedly detained more than 1,000 people since last night.
