Zelensky Condemns Trump’s Russian Diesel Deal, Warns It Could Prolong Ukraine War

In a statement posted on X, Zelensky argued that concessions to Russia would not secure peace and could undermine efforts to end the conflict. He said allowing Moscow to sell petroleum products amounted to an investment in a war that should be brought to an end. Zelensky also warned that Russia could respond to such concessions with further attacks, insisting that meaningful peace required reciprocal de-escalation rather than what he described as weakness. He called on Washington to adopt a firmer approach towards Moscow and reaffirmed his hope for continued American support for Ukraine’s defence.
The announcement comes amid diplomatic efforts to develop new proposals aimed at ending the war, with Ukrainian and European officials reportedly holding discussions with Trump administration representatives in Florida. The disagreement highlights the competing priorities of reducing global energy prices and maintaining economic pressure on Russia. While the proposed diesel supplies could help increase fuel availability, Zelensky’s criticism underscores concerns in Kyiv that additional Russian energy revenues could support continued military operations. The deal’s broader implications will depend on its implementation, the conditions governing Russian fuel exports and the progress of ongoing peace negotiations.
