Earthquake felt in Peshawar and surrounding areas
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Tremors were strongly felt in Peshawar, Khyber, and Malakand. The Seismological Center said the quake’s epicenter was in southern Afghanistan at a depth of 20 kilometers.
The sudden tremors created panic among residents. Many people rushed out of homes and buildings, reciting Kalma Tayyaba in fear. Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported so far.
This was not the first time in recent weeks. Earlier in September, another powerful earthquake struck several cities including Peshawar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Swat.
That quake was stronger, measured at 6.0 magnitude, with its epicenter in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 15 kilometers.
