Income Tax Return 2025: Extension Rumors and Updates

With the September 30, 2025 deadline for filing income tax returns fast approaching, Pakistani taxpayers are hopeful for an extension amid ongoing challenges caused by recent devastating floods and technical difficulties with the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS portal.

However, the FBR has reaffirmed its commitment to support taxpayers, urging everyone to file their returns accurately and honestly within the stipulated time. In an official statement, the revenue board said, “FBR remains committed to facilitate taxpayers in all possible ways and urges all eligible taxpayers to file their Income Tax returns correctly and with honesty at the earliest as the deadline for filing is 30th September, 2025.”

The deadline for individuals and Associations of Persons (AOPs) remains September 30, 2025, while corporate tax returns for companies following regular tax years must be submitted by December 31, 2025.

In a recent move, the FBR, following recommendations from a high-powered government committee and approval from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, removed the column for ‘Estimated Fair Market Value’ from this year’s income tax return forms.

The FBR explained, “In pursuance of the directions of the Honourable prime minister, and keeping in view the difficulties being faced by taxpayers, the column of ‘Estimated Fair Market Value’ has been removed from the Income Tax Return.” The agency also clarified that this column was included solely for data collection purposes to aid the Economic Survey and had no impact on income assessment or tax liability.

Despite the ongoing difficulties, the FBR has not announced any extension to the filing deadline, urging taxpayers to complete their returns on time.
