Who is Marina B? Trapeze Artist Dies After Fall During Circus Show in Germany

29 September, 2025 12:56

A tragic accident shocked the audience at the Paul Busch Circus in Bautzen, East Germany, when Spanish trapeze artist Marina B, aged 27, fell to her death during a live performance.

The Fatal Fall

Marina was performing a daring solo trapeze act when she slipped and fell from a height of 16 feet (5 meters) at around 5:45 p.m. Nearly 100 spectators, including families with children, witnessed the horrifying scene.

Emergency services rushed to the circus tent, but Marina died instantly from her severe injuries. Police later confirmed that she had not been using a safety rope during the stunt, although German law does not require performers to use one.

Audience Reaction

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic. Screams erupted from the audience, with some parents quickly covering their children’s eyes while others fled the tent in shock.

Special support services were immediately offered to traumatized guests. The circus canceled all remaining shows, posting a note that read: “Due to a bereavement, the circus will be closed.”

Investigation Underway

Police spokesman Stefan Heiduck confirmed that Marina was alone in the ring at the time of the fall. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.

Ralf Huppertz, head of Germany’s circus association, suggested Marina may have suffered a sudden health issue, saying:
“It’s unusual for a well-trained artist not to survive a fall from just five meters. Perhaps she got dizzy on the trapeze.”

Who Was Marina B?

Marina was originally from Mallorca, Spain, and had more than 10 years of professional experience as an aerialist. She was admired for her passion and artistry, often describing performing as a way to create unforgettable moments.

On her Instagram, just weeks before the tragedy, she posted a photo of herself mid-performance with the caption: “Up here, I work best.”

Tributes have poured in since her death. One read: “Even though you are no longer here, your love and light will continue to guide my steps every day. Marina Barcelona.”

Official Reactions

The Mayor of Bautzen, Karsten Vogt, expressed condolences, saying:
“The accident has deeply affected us. On behalf of the city, I extend my sincere sympathy to the relatives and all those affected by this terrible accident.”

The Paul Busch Circus, which is known for its classical circus shows featuring acrobats, clowns, and animal acts, described Marina as a highly talented performer and said they were devastated by the tragedy.
