Trump Says He Has No Regret Over Decision to Start War Against Iran

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he has no regrets about his decision to launch the war against Iran, adding that he would make the same decision again if given another opportunity.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iran could not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and maintained that preventing Tehran from obtaining such weapons remained his top priority.

He also said the war would have no significant impact on the upcoming US midterm elections and predicted that the conflict would end immediately after the November elections.

Trump Defends War Policy

Trump said his supporters were not disappointed by the war with Iran and instead felt proud that the United States was confronting Tehran.

He suggested that some people in Iran were waiting for political changes in Washington, while accusing Tehran of hoping that a future Democratic administration would allow it to develop nuclear weapons.

The US president again defended his decision to launch military action, saying he would choose to attack Iran again if faced with the same circumstances.

Trump also claimed that US operations had significantly weakened Iran’s naval capabilities.

Trump Says Iran Was Close to Nuclear Weapons

In earlier remarks, Trump argued that military action was necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

He said that without the US campaign, Iran could have developed nuclear weapons within two months.

Trump also said Iran was no longer the dominant power he described as the “bully” of the Middle East.

He used a hypothetical scenario to argue that if Iran had acquired nuclear weapons, Washington would have been forced to deal with Tehran differently rather than using military force.

Trump said the United States would then have faced a situation in which it might have had to approach Iran’s leadership diplomatically instead of launching attacks.

Iran War and Midterm Elections

Trump reiterated that the conflict would end shortly after the November 3, 2026 midterm elections.

His comments come as the prolonged confrontation continues to generate debate inside the United States over military costs, energy prices and the administration’s strategy toward Iran.

The president has continued to defend the campaign despite criticism from some US lawmakers and analysts who have questioned whether Washington has achieved its stated objectives.

Trump, however, maintains that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons justifies the military campaign and insists that the United States has significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities.

The continued uncertainty over the duration of the conflict, combined with Trump’s prediction of an end immediately after the midterms, has made the war an increasingly important political issue ahead of the US elections.
