Celeste Rivas Case: Rapper D4vd Reportedly Not Named As Murder Suspect
Nearly a month after the discovery of Celeste Rivas’ decomposing body in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla registered to rapper D4vd, authorities have yet to name any suspects in the case.
On October 2, Rolling Stone reported a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) indicating that the investigation is ongoing, but no suspect has been identified. According to the statement, “The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez’s death. As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body.” The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD) continues to conduct a thorough examination of all evidence related to the case.
Despite public speculation and the circulation of social media posts showing Rivas with David Anthony Burke — known professionally as D4vd — officials have not named the rapper as a suspect due to a lack of concrete evidence. Reports suggest the two had some form of relationship, possibly romantic, but this has not been confirmed.
Authorities are also considering the possibility that Rivas’ death may not have been a homicide but rather an accident.
Further details released earlier in the week revealed that Rivas may have been deceased for several weeks before her body was discovered. The LAPD noted, “The vehicle had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, so Ms. Rivas Hernandez may have been deceased for several weeks before the discovery of her body.”
The Tesla was initially marked by parking enforcement on August 27 following complaints from residents in the Hollywood Hills about the car being left in the same spot for an extended period. On September 3, the vehicle was issued a citation for violating the 72-hour parking ordinance. Two days later, on September 5, the car was impounded and towed to a Hollywood tow yard.
Celeste Rivas had been missing since April 2024 after running away from her home. Her parents had filed a missing persons report with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office but were unable to locate her until the recent discovery.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding Rivas’ death.
