NADRA Removes CNIC Cancellation Fee After Death

06 October, 2025 11:14

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a major relief for citizens by waiving the fee for canceling a National Identity Card (CNIC) in the event of the cardholder’s death.

“According to a NADRA spokesperson, the cancellation fee for CNICs in the event of death has officially been waived.”

In a move aimed at making registration services more accessible and efficient, NADRA has also launched a pilot project across three districts in Punjab. This initiative enables citizens to register deaths via a mobile application, which is fully integrated with the Provincial Civil Registration Management System (CRMS).

“Within a few weeks, this service, covering birth, marriage, divorce, and death registrations, will be available nationwide.”

The NADRA spokesperson highlighted enhanced coordination with provincial authorities, allowing for seamless data sharing. Once a death is registered in the provincial CRMS, the corresponding CNIC can be canceled using NADRA’s Pak-ID mobile app.

“Once a death is registered in the provincial CRMS, the CNIC can be canceled via NADRA’s Pak-ID mobile app.”

These measures are expected to significantly improve the accuracy of official records while also reducing the potential for fraudulent registrations.

In a separate development, NADRA has introduced a new appointment booking feature in the Pak-ID mobile app, allowing citizens to schedule visits to NADRA Registration Centers (NRCs) across the country.

“Earlier on Friday, NADRA rolled out a new appointment booking feature through its Pak ID mobile app, allowing citizens to schedule visits to NADRA Registration Centers (NRCs) nationwide.”

This digital system aims to reduce long queues and wait times, ensuring a smoother experience for applicants. Citizens are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to their appointment to facilitate timely processing.
