Pakistan, IMF Start Key Economic Talks Today

06 October, 2025 11:11

Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are holding policy-level negotiations today as part of the second economic review session, which will continue until October 8.

The IMF team’s agenda includes a detailed briefing on the Reko Diq project, focusing on the investment impacts, taxes, and royalties related to the project. Discussions will also cover external financing and the macroeconomic effects of the Reko Diq project. The guarantees and fiscal implications of the project will be thoroughly reviewed.

In addition, the IMF mission will receive a briefing on Pakistan’s new tariff policy in the second session. Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Jawad Pal, along with his team, will present the details of this tariff policy.

Recently, Pakistan introduced a five-year National Tariff Policy for 2023-2025. The policy aims to increase exports by 10 to 14 percent annually while slowing down the growth rate of imports to support economic stability.

These talks are crucial for Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms and cooperation with the IMF.
