Natha Khan Bridge Update: KMC to Construct Alternate Route to Alleviate Traffic & Repair Issues

08 October, 2025 12:59

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to build a second route for the Natha Khan Bridge to address increasing traffic congestion and reduce ongoing maintenance problems. This development comes after multiple incidents of iron theft have caused frequent disruptions and repairs on the existing bridge.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab led a meeting with municipal and engineering officials, instructing them to complete a comprehensive survey within one week. He directed that construction of the alternate route should commence immediately after the survey report is submitted.

Officials highlighted that persistent theft and continuous repair work have strained the current bridge’s structure. The new Natha Khan Bridge project aims to provide a long-term solution by diverting some traffic onto an additional road, improving overall traffic flow around the airport area.

According to KMC, the Engineering Department will finalize the survey and submit its findings promptly to enable swift action. The project is part of the city’s infrastructure improvement plan and is considered a high priority. The alternate route will ensure uninterrupted connectivity between the airport corridor and key city routes.

Mayor Wahab stressed, “addressing public issues and improving civic facilities remain the top responsibility of the administration.” He also noted that the Natha Khan Bridge construction is an urgent priority, with regular progress updates expected from the engineering team.

KMC plans to release further details regarding the route alignment, construction phases, and estimated completion timeline once the survey is complete.
