The effective reforms introduced by the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Affairs are producing positive results and bringing major progress to Pakistan’s maritime sector.

As a result of the task force’s reforms, Karachi Port’s global ranking improved from 99th to 69th position within one year.

Port Qasim also recorded significant progress, moving from 74th to 56th position in the global rankings.

Karachi Port and Port Qasim have the combined capacity to handle more than 100 million tonnes of cargo annually.

Within one year, Karachi Port improved by 30 positions while Port Qasim moved up by 18 positions in global rankings.

Goods Declaration revenue increased by 16 percent, while income tax collections recorded a 14 percent rise.

Electronic legal revenues also increased significantly by 105 percent following the maritime reforms.

Modern port facilities and improved systems are helping strengthen Pakistan’s position as a regional transshipment hub.

The removal of sales tax on shipbuilding raw materials and the purchase of ships is expected to support the growth of the local shipbuilding industry.

New ports, faster customs procedures, uniform port tariffs and improved logistics are also helping promote shipbuilding and strengthen the maritime sector.
