Michigan businessman Eddie Jawad was shot outside his mansion in Macomb Township, near 24 Mile and Foss Road. Police say the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m., sending shockwaves through the local business community. Jawad, 61, survived the attack and is currently in stable condition at the hospital.
Authorities are searching for a dark-colored SUV seen speeding east on 24 Mile Road moments after the shooting. Investigators believe more than one suspect may be involved.
Who Is Eddie Jawad?
Eddie Jawad is a prominent entrepreneur and a respected community advocate in Macomb County. He owns multiple gas stations and convenience stores across Metro Detroit, including franchises with Circle K, Speedway, 7-Eleven, Meijer, and Kroger.
Jawad is known for his outspoken stance on government accountability and protection of small business owners. He has publicly challenged local corruption and large corporate influence in the region since 2016.
What Happened on the Day of the Shooting?
The shooting occurred outside Jawad’s private residence. Neighbors reported hearing two bursts of gunfire. Jawad was struck by glass fragments after shots were fired at his vehicle as he was leaving home.
His close acquaintance, Faye Nemer, CEO of the MENA American Chamber of Commerce, said the incident deeply shocked the community.
“Eddie has always stood up against corruption. He consistently called out any form of injustice against local businesses,” she said.
Reaction from Community and Officials
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido called the attack “outrageous,” condemning the violence: “Someone attempted to kill him at his own home. This should never happen in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood.”
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation remains active. Local schools briefly went into lockdown after the incident.
Investigation Underway
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at 586-307-9358. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but Jawad’s vocal activism against local corruption is being closely examined.
