A shocking case has emerged from Bengaluru’s medical community as Dr Mahendra Reddy, a 32-year-old general surgeon at Victoria Hospital, was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, Dr Kritika Reddy, using a lethal anaesthetic drug.
Police say the death, first reported in April 2025 as natural, was in fact a planned medical murder.
A Marriage That Ended in Tragedy
Mahendra and Kritika married in May 2024. Soon, their relationship began to strain after Mahendra reportedly learned about Kritika’s long-term gastric and metabolic health issues.
According to investigators, between April 21 and 23, 2025, Mahendra administered injections at home, claiming to treat her stomach problems.
On April 24, Kritika was found unconscious and later declared dead at a hospital. Mahendra allegedly tried to stop an autopsy, saying it was a natural death.
Forensic Report Reveals Murder
Suspicion from Kritika’s family led to forensic testing. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report revealed Propofol, a powerful anaesthetic, in her body.
This drug is commonly used in surgeries and available only to trained doctors. Police described the case as a “clinical precision murder,” carried out with medical expertise.
Alleged Motive and Investigation
Police are investigating deeper motives, including:
-
Financial disputes
-
Marital conflicts
-
A possible extramarital affair involving Mahendra
Officials said Mahendra used his access to hospital drugs and medical knowledge to stage the death as natural.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh praised the investigation for exposing “a murder disguised as a medical tragedy.”
Family’s Shock and Demand for Justice
Kritika’s family has expressed deep grief, calling it a betrayal by someone they trusted as both husband and doctor. They are demanding strong punishment and reform in monitoring controlled medical drugs.
A Case That Shakes Medical Ethics
This case has sparked national debate about domestic abuse, misuse of medical skills, and the need for stricter checks in hospitals.
The public is asking: How can healing knowledge be used to harm?
