Islamabad to Host Its First Special Technology Zone Under CDA–STZA Partnership
In a significant step toward transforming Islamabad into a technology-driven innovation hub, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) have officially partnered to establish the capital’s first-ever Special Technology Zone (STZ).
The agreement was solidified during a high-level meeting at CDA Headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, alongside STZA Chairman Azfar Manzoor. Senior officials including Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Planning and Design CDA, and Aamir Saleemi, Executive Director STZA, were also in attendance.
As part of the collaboration, STZA will serve as the regulatory body, responsible for licensing high-tech firms and investors, while CDA will oversee infrastructure development and urban planning for the new zone. A joint working group has been formed to develop the operational and financial frameworks for the project, with final plans to be submitted to the Federal Government for approval.
The proposed Special Technology Zone is expected to host a range of entities, including tech startups, research institutions, and advanced manufacturing units, offering an integrated space for innovation, production, and collaboration. Authorities are also exploring tax incentives and duty exemptions to attract local and international investment.
CDA Chairman Randhawa stated that transforming Islamabad into a “technopolis city” is a key strategic priority. He noted that the project will not only boost exports and generate employment but also place Islamabad on the map as a regional technology powerhouse.
Once approved, the initiative will mark a major milestone in Pakistan’s digital and economic transformation, laying the foundation for a sustainable and innovation-driven future.
