Pakistan Mineral Wealth Gains Global Recognition: Foreign Policy Magazine

Pakistan’s vast mineral resources are gaining global attention, with U.S. magazine Foreign Policy acknowledging their international importance.

According to the publication, Pakistan’s mineral reserves span an area of 230,000 square miles — nearly twice the size of the United Kingdom — making them globally significant.

The report highlights that international investment and bilateral agreements in Pakistan’s mining sector could bring economic, technological, and social benefits not just to Pakistan, but also to investor countries.

To better utilize its natural resources, Pakistan has introduced the National Minerals Policy 2025. The policy aims to deliver long-term growth and national self-reliance through sustainable use of minerals.

Key focus areas include boosting rural infrastructure, creating jobs, and promoting social development — especially in provinces like Balochistan. Under the Reko Diq project, Balochistan graduates are already being sent abroad for specialized training.

The article notes that Pakistan’s mineral sector has the potential to unlock new opportunities for economic and social progress. It also highlights the importance of international cooperation and technology sharing to advance mining capabilities.
